Our Promise to our Planet

St Raphael Resort & Marina
Sustainable Luxury

At St Raphael Resort & Marina, our mission is to be a truly eco-friendly, sustainable five-star hotel - proving that large resorts can significantly reduce their carbon footprint while still offering the ultimate luxury experience our guests expect.
We are committed to being transparent with our guests and kind to the planet. We take full responsibility for our actions and invite both our customers and team to join us in evolving continuously, exploring new and innovative ways to make a positive impact.

While we know there’s still a long journey ahead, we’ve already implemented many sustainable practices, such as:
•    Reducing electricity and water consumption
•    Minimizing harmful chemicals in detergents and toiletries
•    Eliminating (as far as humanly possible) single-use plastics
•    Upcycling and recycling materials—from paper to furniture
•    Offering eco-educational activities for children
•    Supporting local culture and agriculture
•    Providing an abundance of healthy food options

Together - with you, our valued guests and trusted community - we move one step at a time toward a healthier, cleaner, and more compassionate world that we all deserve.

How Are We Doing This?

We are committed to honesty and transparency. We set realistic and achievable goals, and we share them openly. Below are just some of the many ways we are working toward a greener future:

Our People - Sustainability Committee

A dedicated sustainability committee will be formed with representatives from every department. These team members will act as ambassadors for eco-conscious practices, supporting management in implementing and monitoring our sustainable strategy.
This initiative covers all aspects of how St Raphael Resort & Marina operates - now and in the future - including:
•    Workplace safety
•    Social responsibility and community engagement
•    Environmental impact reduction
•    Maintaining our reputation as one of Cyprus’ leading sustainable luxury resorts
•    Spreading eco-conscious values within departments

Housekeeping

•    Eliminate the use of unnecessary and harmful chemicals in cleaning, detergents, and laundry
•    Shift to eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives
•    Remove harsh chemicals from our room cleaning routines

Kitchen

•    Source and use local products as much as possible
•    Include a wide variety of plant-based dishes
•    Reduce food waste from buffet services
•    Donate leftover animal-based food to support local stray cats and nearby dog sanctuaries.

Plastic Water Bottles

•    Reduce single-use plastic by introducing a nominal surcharge on bottled water for All-Inclusive guests - serving as a gentle reminder to reduce plastic consumption
•    Use our own glass-bottled, cold-filtered water served throughout the resort with zero plastic use

Recycling

•    Recycling bins are placed throughout the resort - from room corridors to garden areas
•    “Marc the Shark,” our interactive recycling mascot, will be placed near the beach to encourage participation and educate guests on marine protection. Collected plastic bottles will help protect ocean life from injuries caused by waste

Furniture and Marble

•    Preserve and appreciate the resort’s historic architecture
•    Upcycle and re-design furniture to meet new concepts while minimizing resource waste

Energy and Water

•    Photovoltaic panels have been installed as the first step in reducing our electricity consumption
•    Water-saving devices installed in all showers across the resort

Laundry and Towel Service

•    Guests are welcome to have their bed sheets and towels changed daily; however, we kindly encourage opting for changes every second or third day to support our efforts in reducing water and energy consumption.
•    Transitioning to tablecloth-free dining in all restaurants
•    Introduction of natural-coloured towels, eliminating the need for bleaches and harsh chemicals
•    Use of eco-friendly, sand-coloured toilet paper in all guest rooms

Toiletries

•    All in-room luxury toiletries are vegan, packed in biodegradable, eco-friendly containers

Spa

•    Use of locally sourced, certified vegan, cruelty-free, natural, and often organic products across nearly all professional and retail spa lines

Eco-Gym

•    Our gym equipment in both the Main Gym and The Tower is state-of-the-art eco-gyms, generating electricity as you work out instead of consuming it

Green Key

We are proud to be part of the Green Key program - an international eco-label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education to tourism establishments that meet the highest standards of sustainability.
This certification guarantees that by staying at our resort, guests directly contribute to environmental protection and sustainable hospitality. Our standards are upheld through ongoing documentation and independent audits.

Go Green, skip the clean!

By choosing to skip daily housekeeping, guests help us reduce water usage, detergent and chemical consumption, and electricity usage.
And for every day you skip the clean, we’ll plant a tree - helping create a greener future for our planet.
Let’s reach our 2025 sustainability goals together - every small action makes a big difference.

I-STARS Grant Scheme

The sustainability journey of  St Raphael Resort & Marina was co-funded by the European Union, under the I-STARS SMP-COSME-2021-TOURSME Project No. 101085914.

Diversity and Multiculturalism

At St Raphael Resort & Marina, we celebrate diversity and embrace multiculturalism as part of our core values. Approximately 50% of our workforce are women, and we believe that gender equality and cultural diversity foster a more innovative, respectful, and productive work environment.
We value the unique experiences and perspectives each team member brings, and we believe that by leveraging these differences, we create better solutions and enhance the experience for everyone - guests and staff alike.
