The sun, sea and sand of Limassol have long attracted visitors from all over the globe to this sunny resort. However, there are many more valuable attractions awaiting visitors to this vibrant town. As the second-largest city on the island and the largest seaside resort, with a population of nearly 180,000 people, Limassol offers something for everyone as a year-round destination.
The city stretches between two of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Cyprus, both built on cliff tops and offering breathtaking views over the sea - the ancient city-kingdoms of Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west. Excavations from these sites are held in such high regard that artefacts are exhibited in renowned museums such as the Louvre Museum in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Limassol is ideally situated between the island’s two international airports. Larnaca Airport is approximately half an hour away, while transfer time from Pafos Airport is around 45 minutes. With frequent flights from many international destinations, having the option of two arrival airports makes travelling even more convenient.
Limassol is also the island’s main port and the centre of its wine industry. A wide range of activities, along with numerous museums and archaeological sites, are available to visitors. The ancient ruins of Amathus, considered home to the first perfume factory in the world, the Kourion Amphitheatre, Kolossi Castle, the Medieval Limassol Castle, and traditional Cypriot villages—just to name a few—can all be explored in this vibrant and cosmopolitan destination.
